Durango Delights - a guide to unforgettable experiences in Southwest Colorado
Durango is a beautiful place to visit any time of year!
What we love about Durango: Hiking and Biking trails right out of town, including The Animas River Trail that basically runs the length of the town along the Animas river. Stop by Mountain Bike Specialists for tips and details about trail conditions and finding the right path for your needs. Skiing Purgatory in the winter and soaking in hot springs are fabulous options as well.
Coffee: 81301 Coffee House & Roasters
Lunch: Grab lunch at Zia Taquriea, get the baja fish tacos or Tuesday special of chile relleno, either will hit the spot, opt for a side salad if you're looking to be healthy.
Aprés: Steamworks for a beer or glass of wine after your hike. The Cesar Salad Redux with the Buckel Family Wine Sauvignon Blanc is one of our favs, or a burger with our high elevation Pinot Noir will fill an empty tank after hitting it hard on the trails or slopes.
Dinner: Check into Eolus for a fine dining dinner experience.
Drinks: Don’t miss Durango’s Speakeasy The Bookcase and Barber, know the password before you go. Cocktails are their speciality.
Looking for an afternoon excursion? Head up Hwy 550 to Hermosa, “beautiful” in Spanish and stop by the Durango Hot Springs for a soak and cold plunge. HOT TIP: make a reservation before you go. Keep moving north to James Ranch for lunch. Their Harvest Grill and Market are a bar above in terms of farm to table. Enjoy lunch as you gaze onto the pasture where your food was raised. Grab a glass of Buckel Family Wine to pair with lunch 4 tap wines to choose from or take a bottle home from the Market.
Sweet Treats: If you have a sweet tooth in the group don’t miss Cream Bean Berry - and yes their plant based ice creams are actually fantastic! Animas Chocolate has numerous specialty hot chocolates that will warm you up and you’ll likely be tempted by one of their many truffles.
